If you smell gas in your apartment: do not switch anything on or off, do not use flames, open windows if safe, close the gas valve if you can reach it, leave and call Dubai Civil Defence on 997 from outside. Inform building security. Once declared safe, have a technician trace and repair the leak before using gas again.
Strong smell: get out
Leave the apartment, take others with you, leave the door open, and call 997 from outside. Do not use the lift if gas is in the corridor. Tell security so they can alert the building's gas provider.
Faint smell: ventilate and isolate
Open windows, turn off burners, close the cooker isolation valve or cylinder, and avoid switches. If the smell does not clear, treat it as strong.

A tiny spark from a switch, bell or phone can ignite gas at the right concentration.
After it is safe
Have the hose, regulator, valves and pipework tested. Old rubber hoses are the most common cause. Book gas leak detection or emergency gas leak repair.
